Roses are red, violets are blue, there’s nothing better than someone ringing to say, “I love you.” It’s nearly Valentine’s Day, and that means that romance is in the air, heart-shaped candies are in stores and sweet nothings are only a phone call away.

There are a lot of ways to express how much you care about someone, from handwritten letters to emojis, but there’s something special about a phone call. Listening to the heartfelt emotion in someone’s voice as they tell you how much they care really pulls at your heartstrings.

Ooma asked our users to share their most romantic phone calls. Here’s some of what they said:

Start a romantic tradition

“For the first six months of our relationship, my wife and I lived 500 miles apart. We’d visit each other one weekend a month, but the time in between visits was difficult. Every day before work, I’d call her and tell her good morning, that I loved her, and wished her a good day. That became a tradition, and we still do it to this day, after four and a half years of marriage.”

Help someone end their day on a high

“Was with my last husband. He would always call me before I went to bed, and would sing to me. I always fell asleep with a smile on my face and thoughts for the next day.”

Make spur-of-the-moment plans

“I called a girl I loved to ask her to meet me at the top of a mountain on a certain date. She said she was unsure about it but I went anyway. At dusk, when I was about to leave, there she was suddenly. We now have two kids with a third on the way. Phone calls made on a whim sometimes do work!”

Discover your true feelings

“I was dating a girl and was having a great time. One evening, we had a really long phone call, and I usually keep calls short. I decided that this girl was the one I was going to marry. After the call, I thought about it for more hours, and confirmed it in my mind. We’ve been married almost 26 years.”

Share how much you care

“My most romantic phone call was received from my husband. I could still remember that wonderful, safe, and joyful feeling in recognizing that he cared very much about me, and he will stand beside me for as long as it takes to get my health back. He could have walked away, but instead he declared his love for me. This was followed by beautiful roses!”
