Enhanced Caller-ID

Last Updated: December 4, 2025

With basic caller-ID, the telephone number of any incoming call will be displayed on your phone. Incoming calls from phone numbers you don’t recognize can leave you in the dark before you pick up the phone, though. Enhanced Caller-ID will give you the name of the incoming caller to help you decide whether you want to take the call.

What is Enhanced Caller-ID?

When you receive an incoming phone call from a number that is not in your Contact List, Enhanced Caller-ID will attempt to look up the caller’s name from a national database. Whenever possible, the name of who’s calling along with the phone number will display on your phone’s caller-ID screen.

Note: The Contact List feature is only available to Ooma Telo Base Station or Phone Genie customers.

What is the difference between regular Caller-ID and Enhanced Caller-ID?

Regular Caller-ID will give you the phone number of the incoming call. Enhanced Caller-ID goes the additional mile to look up the registered owner of the phone number in a national phone database.

Why don’t I get the name and number for all of my incoming calls?

Some callers can choose to hide their numbers, which will result in the name and number being displayed as “UNKNOWN” or “UNAVAILABLE” on your caller-ID screen. If you don’t want to talk to these unidentified individuals, you can choose not to take calls from unknown numbers by enabling Anonymous Call Block.

Many cell phone numbers are not registered with the national databases that allow phone providers to link names and phone numbers for caller-ID purposes. In these cases, the caller-ID screen will display “CELL PHONE” and the state the call is coming from.

How do I get access to Enhanced Caller-ID?

The Enhanced Caller-ID feature is available to all Ooma Premier subscribers. You don’t have to do anything to turn this feature on — the additional information will appear automatically for all incoming calls.
