Can I distribute my Ooma dial tone to all of the phone jacks in my house?

Under most circumstances, it is possible to distribute your Ooma dial tone to all of the phone jacks in your home. Before you get started, there are some safety precautions you should be aware of. For more information, please see our article.

How do I set up my Ooma device to work with a DVR or satellite unit that requires a phone line?

DVR and satellite boxes that require access to a phone line may be connected to your Ooma device. Your DVR or satellite box should be programmed to dial the *99 prefix prior to the destination phone number. This will signal to the Ooma device that the call should be optimized for the modem signals that will be sent by the connected device.

Note that transmission of modem signals over Ooma is highly dependent on the quality of your Internet connection and may not work for all customers. If you are unable to get your DVR or satellite box to work over Ooma, we recommend that you maintain a basic phone line (with no features or long distance plan) for this purpose.

How do I install Ooma in a different location than my modem or router?

If your modem or router is located in place that’s inconvenient for your Ooma Telo Base Station or Phone Genie and your family telephone, just follow the steps in the Quick Start Guide to install it in a location that works for you.

Ooma also works well with many 3rd party HomePlug devices. Our HomePlug article will give you an overview of how these devices work with Ooma.
