Smart Home Security - OOMA is EASY

First, I have used the OOMA phone system for about 10 years and have been very pleased. I tried a number of other VOIP services and found the quality to be poor to OK, but certainly not as good as OOMA. Because of my exceptionally good results with their phone system, I decided to try their home security system. But first, I needed to upgrade my VOIP modem/base station. That turned out to be very easy as the technology has improved dramatically over the yeas, so it synced with my internet modem very smoothly. As far as the security system is concerned, I liked the idea that I could manage it myself without having to contract with a monitoring service. That has worked out very well, but I am still considering home monitoring as it is not as expensive as other major services. For now, I will self monitor.That said, the equipment was very easy to set up and sync. Each device including several of each smoke detectors, window and door sensors, water sensors, motion sensors synched very easily and installed in their respective places with ease. My wife was very concerned that we would have security appliances 'all over the place' so she was not happy with the idea at first. I installed them one evening and told her a week later. She realized they are quite unobtrusive. This system is easy to set up and use if you have an Apple device. However, not all Android devices are not supported.

Easy set up

Pretty easy to set up, plug in to network, set up account on line, test ring count, finished.

Monitoring my kids

I use a door sensor on our game console room to monitor my son's video game activity!

I attach a door sensor to know when my dog walker comes over.

Good for pets

I use the door sensor on my cat door to know when they go in or out.

Stopping water damage

I put one of my water sensors a few inches down into the basement floor drain pipe so that I'll get a notification if the system backs up BEFORE water makes it to the floor surface.

Kids home from school safe

I use the system to let me know that the kids got home from school ok.

Sensor monitors

We have installed a door sensor to monitor when our child leaves their room during the night. It's a great way to know if they are leaving their room, we also have a camera in our downstairs area we can look at to see if they've been sneaking candy or snacks after bedtime.

Saved money

I have installed a door sensor at the detached garage, lets me know if someone opens the door. The water sensors beside basement water tank and under kitchen sink. The rest of sensors are installed at front and back doors and windows. Finally a motion sensor facing front door. This security system replaced my ADT 3 years ago and has saved me 30 dollars a month.

Customize my Ooma Smart Security system

I customize my Ooma Smart Security system by naming my sensors. I have two garage door sensors. I customized them with names "large garage door" and "small garage door" so I know which door is open.
